Synagogue Management Platform
Admin system and live display screen for a community synagogue
A community synagogue ran members, donations, aliyot and memorials on spreadsheets and paper. I built an admin system to replace that, then a second app: a wall-mounted display that pulls the same data plus the Jewish calendar and shows announcements, prayer times and upcoming memorials. Both have been in daily use since launch.
Role
Solo developer — requirements with the community, design, build, deployment, ongoing support.
Outcome
In daily use; roughly 50% less admin time reported by the community.
What I built
- Angular 18 admin application with NgRx state, Angular Material, custom print layouts for receipts and honor lists, and a mobile-friendly data-entry flow used during services.
- Node.js API on Fastify with MongoDB: members, donations, pledges, scheduling and announcement management behind role-based auth.
- Next.js display screen that runs unattended on a wall-mounted TV: auto-refreshing, integrates the Hebcal API for daily prayer times, parasha and calendar events, and reads announcements from the admin system.
- Replaced manual data entry with structured records and reports; the community estimates about half the admin time saved.
